Crafting compelling copy

Radley London asked me to write the copy for their Autumn/Winter 2021 catalogue. Their tone of voice is punchy, witty and fun, and completely up my street!

To build a relationship with your customers and clients, you need to create a compelling relationship with them. Copy has to resonate with the reader, and with the right tone, they’ll trust you and want to invest in your products.

 

Jingle bells, copy sells

Sales and good copy go hand-in-hand, and Christmas can be a particularly fortuitous time. Beautiful images and well-chosen words can convince a prospective customer to invest in your products, and Radley London tasked me with the latter. The result? A match made in festive heaven.

I was hired as IELTS Advantage’s in-house copywriter and proofreader in January 2021. Over my tenure, I wrote emails containing student testimonials, details of new course launches and special offer bulletins to entice students to invest in their services.

Over a five-month period, my emails convinced prospective students to invest in their services, generating $25,000 from 20,000 enrolments. On average, each email had an open rate of 100,000 people.

As IELTS Advantage helps students from predominantly developing countries acquire the necessary English language tools to help them to emigrate, the language and tone had to be simple and easy to understand. This required the ability to think critically and be empathetic with language, which I do rather well, if I do say so. The head of marketing thought so, too. Click here to read his testimonial.

The founders of KINDD asked me to adhere to a motherly, trustworthy and nurturing tone, echoing to their brand identity and resonating across their website. I developed copy to draw in potential customers with a sprinkling of character and a ladleful of love. The result? A company that you can trust, and products you can invest in.

Blogs

A big part of KINDD’s marketing strategy is to not only advertise their own products, but also to advocate the ease of making your own organic, natural skincare at home. Like the technical challenge in the Great British Bake Off, I received a list of ingredients and a rudimentary recipe. What did I do with it? I created stunning, accessible and friendly posts that earns everyone the Star Baker award.

Product description

The dreaded fear of many business owners is that their TOV and brand ethos will be under scrutiny, and their sales will suffer a s a result. The solution is to be as transparent and open as possible. This has the power to resonate with customers and allows them to see the people behind the business — people you can trust. KINDD asked me to create information pages and product descriptions that do just that.

As any business owner knows, social media is the marketing tool of dreams. Due to its wide-ranging accessibility, it’s so important to get your words right. Images draw you in, but captions pack the final punch. For KINDD< I wrote catchy, attractive and compelling copy to generate sales.

Black Jelly is a trendy design agency based in Paris. They asked me to create copy for the website that would draw in an English-speaking clientele. They requested that the tone be catchy, informative and informed. Their website design is innovative, young and fun, and this is reflected in the copy I crafted.

Client details

Telling customers what you have achieved with previous clients is such an important way to generate future business (I’m doing it right now). Keeping such snippets brief and tight, yet loaded with detail, is a great way to ensure their interest is piqued and their reassurances met. Sometimes less is more.
